Should You Rekey or Change Your Locks?
Rekey when the lock works and you only want old keys to stop working. Change the lock when it is worn, damaged or you want better hardware. Silver State Locksmith does both at your door across the Las Vegas valley.

- Home rekeys from us start at $79.99.
- Typical valley rekeys are $20 to $50 per lock plus the visit.
- New deadbolts usually run $100 to $300 installed.
- Veterans get 10% off new locks from us.
Answer Three Questions
Does the lock work smoothly?
If it sticks, wobbles or was pried, change the lock. New pins will not save it. If it works well, keep going.
Does it have a keyhole?
A keypad or combination lock with no keyhole has no key to change, so reset the code. A smart lock with a keyhole usually can be rekeyed too.
Do you want better hardware?
If you want a higher grade or a smart lock, change the lock. If you only want old keys to stop working, rekey it.
What Rekeying Actually Does
Inside every pin tumbler lock is a row of pins matched to the cuts on your key. Rekeying swaps those pins for a new set. The lock stays on your door, and every old key becomes useless.
